The Teardrop Storage Rack – Starter Unit with Deck – 96 in x 48 in x 16 ft from Material Flow is the foundation of a strong, scalable pallet racking system. Designed to stand independently, this starter unit is ideal for beginning a new row of pallet rack in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities.
Manufactured from high-grade steel, this rack features an industry-standard teardrop design that interchanges with most teardrop pallet rack systems on the market today. The 2" vertical adjustment step beam design allows precise beam placement, helping you maximize vertical storage while maintaining proper forklift clearances.
This starter unit accommodates wire decking, wood stringers, or crossbars and includes removable safety load clips at each beam connection to enhance load security. Built for long-term durability and flexibility, it provides a dependable base that can be expanded easily with add-on units as your storage needs grow.
For reliable pallet storage and future expansion, trust Material Flow’s Teardrop Storage Rack Starter Unit with Deck.
Starter Unit vs. Add-On Unit: What’s the Difference?
A Starter Unit includes two upright frames and the required beams, allowing it to stand independently. Every row of pallet rack begins with a starter unit.
An Add-On Unit connects to an existing starter unit and includes one additional upright frame and the required beams, sharing a frame with the previous section. Add-on units are a cost-effective way to expand your pallet rack system without duplicating frames.

How to Select the Correct Pallet Rack
Frame Capacity
Add the total weight of all pallets per bay. Do not include pallets stored on the floor.
Height
Measure pallet height, load height, and beam height.
-
Add 4" clearance between the top of the load and the beam above
-
Top beam must be at least 6" below forklift maximum lift height
Depth
Pallets should overhang the frame 3" front and back
-
48" pallet → use 42" deep frame
-
Deduct 6" from pallet depth
-
Pallets must be in good condition
Width
-
Measure pallet width
-
Add 3" pallet-to-frame clearance
-
Add 4" between pallets
-
Each beam pair must support the pallet load per level
-
Add-on units require only one additional frame
-
Add 6" to beam length to determine overall starter unit width
