✅ How to Select the Right Pallet Rack
At Material Flow, we don’t just sell steel—we provide smart storage solutions tailored to your unique operation. Here’s how to confidently choose the right pallet racking system:
1. Determine Frame Capacity
Calculate the total weight of all pallets stored in each bay (excluding any pallets stored directly on the floor). Your upright frame must support this weight safely and consistently.
2. Choose the Correct Rack Height
Add together:
-
The height of the pallet
-
The height of the product load
-
The beam height
Then add 4 inches of clearance between the top of the load and the beam above.
Pro tip: Your top beam should sit at least 6 inches lower than the maximum lifting height of your forklift for safe and efficient access.
3. Calculate Rack Depth
Ensure each pallet overhangs the frame by 3 inches in the front and back for proper weight distribution.
Example: For a standard 48" pallet, use a 42" deep frame (48" - 6").
✅ Only use pallets in good condition to maintain safety and performance.
4. Determine Beam Width
Start with your pallet width and add:
-
3 inches of clearance between pallet and frame
-
4 inches between pallets on the same beam level
Each beam pair must support the total weight of all pallets on that level.
Need to expand your system? Add-on sections only require one additional frame and the correct number of beams.
