How to Choose the Right Pallet Rack – A Simple Guide

If you're new to pallet racking, selecting the right system can seem overwhelming. But don’t worry—this guide breaks it down step by step!

1. Determine How Much Weight Your Rack Needs to Hold

  • Add up the weight of all pallets stored on a single section (bay) of the rack.
  • Don’t count the pallets that will sit on the floor.

2. Measure the Height You Need

  • Include the height of the pallet, the load on the pallet, and the beams that hold the pallets.
  • Add 4 inches of clearance between the top of the pallet load and the beam above.
  • The top beam should be at least 6 inches lower than your forklift’s maximum lifting height.

3. Find the Right Depth for the Rack Frame

  • Your pallets should overhang the rack frame by 3 inches at the front and back.
  • To calculate the correct depth:
    • Take the depth of your pallet and subtract 6 inches (Example: If your pallet is 48 inches deep, use a 42-inch deep frame).
  • Make sure your pallets are in good condition for safe storage.

4. Determine the Correct Beam Width

  • Measure the width of your pallet.
  • Add at least 3 inches of clearance between the pallet and the frame.
  • Leave at least 4 inches of space between pallets.
  • Each pair of beams must be able to support the total weight of the pallets on that level.

5. Understanding Starter vs. Add-On Sections

  • Starter units need two upright frames.
  • Add-on sections only need one extra frame plus the necessary beams.
  • Add 6 inches to the total width of a starter unit to account for the frame.

Additional Features

  • This rack works with most teardrop-style pallet racks.
  • Made from high-grade steel with 2-inch vertical adjustment for flexibility.
  • Supports crossbars, wood stringers, or wire decking for extra stability.
  • Safety clips on each beam help keep your pallets secure.

Note: Upright frame capacities are based on 42" maximum vertical beam spacing.
