How to Choose the Right Pallet Rack
Frame Capacity
- Calculate the total weight of all pallets stored in a bay (excluding floor-level pallets). Ensure the frame can handle the combined load.
Height
- Measure the full vertical space, including pallet height, pallet load, and beam height.
- Add 4 inches of clearance between the top of the load and the beam above.
- The top beam should be at least 6 inches below your forklift's maximum lifting height.
Depth
- Pallets should overhang the frame by 3 inches on the front and back.
- Example: A 48-inch pallet requires a 42-inch deep frame (deduct 6 inches from the pallet depth).
- Ensure pallets are in good condition for stability and safety.
Width
- Measure the width of the pallet and add:
-
- 3 inches of clearance between the pallet and frame.
- 4 inches of space between adjacent pallets.
-
- Choose beams that support the total pallet weight per level.
- Add-on sections need only one additional frame and the required number of beams.
