How to Choose the Right Pallet Rack for Your Operation

1. Determine Frame Capacity
Calculate the total weight of all pallets that will be stored in each bay—excluding pallets stored on the floor. This total weight will determine the required frame capacity.

2. Measure Height Requirements
Start by measuring the full vertical space needed:

  • Include the pallet height, the load on the pallet, and the beam height.

  • Add 4" of clearance between the top of the load and the beam above it.

  • Ensure the top beam is at least 6" lower than your forklift’s maximum lifting height for safe operation.

3. Select Frame Depth
To allow for proper support:

  • The pallet should overhang 3" in both the front and back.

  • Subtract 6" from the pallet depth to find your ideal frame depth.

  • Be sure all pallets are in good, safe condition for racking.

4. Calculate Beam Width
To determine proper beam length:

  • Measure the width of the pallet.

  • Add a minimum of 3" between the pallet and the frame on both sides.

  • Add 4" between pallets stored side-by-side.
Each pair of beams must support the total weight of the pallets on that level.

For Add-On Sections:
Only one additional upright frame and the required number of beams are needed.
