How to Select the Right Pallet Rack
Choosing the right pallet rack ensures safety, efficiency, and optimal storage capacity. Follow these steps to select the best fit for your needs:
1. Frame Capacity
Add up the total weight of all pallets per bay (excluding those on the floor).
2. Height
Measure total vertical space, including:
- Pallet height
- Pallet load height
- Beam height
Add 4" clearance between the top of the load and the bottom of the beam above.
Ensure the top beam is at least 6" lower than your forklift’s maximum lift height.
3. Depth
Pallets should overhang the frame by 3" in the front and back.
Rule of thumb: Subtract 6" from pallet depth to find the correct frame depth.
- Example: For 48" pallets, use 42" deep frames.
Ensure pallets are in good condition for proper fit.
4. Width
Measure pallet width, then add:
- 3" clearance between the pallet and frame
- 4" between pallets for safe storage
Select beams that can support the total weight per level.
Add-on sections require only one additional frame plus the necessary beams.
