How to Select Pallet Racks for Your Needs
-
Frame Capacity
Calculate the total weight of all pallets stored on each bay (do not include pallets resting directly on the floor). Ensure the selected frame can safely support this load. -
Height
Measure the total vertical height required, including the pallet, the pallet load, and the beam height. Add a 4-inch clearance between the top of the load and the bottom of the beam above it. The top beam height should be at least 6 inches lower than the maximum lifting height of your forklift to ensure safe operation. -
Depth
Choose a frame depth that allows for a 3-inch pallet overhang on both the front and back. For example, a 48-inch pallet requires a 42-inch-deep frame. Deduct 6 inches from the pallet depth to determine the proper frame size. Ensure all pallets are in good condition to maintain safety and balance. -
Width
Measure the width of your pallet and add at least 3 inches of clearance between the pallet and the frame on both sides. Allow an additional 4 inches of clearance between adjacent pallets to determine the correct beam length. Ensure that each pair of beams can safely support the total weight of the pallets on that level. Add-on sections only require one additional frame along with the necessary beams.
